With the announcement of iPad, we are actively revisiting our code to see changes that will fit the iPad better. Much more than that, we’re extremely excited to see a new form factor allowing way more interaction than before.

超級無敵高B班 (華語版) has been approved!

*update: within just 3 days, we are ranked 3rd in Taiwan’s App Store for All Free apps! this is the faster product launch growth thus far!

Nov 24

It’s been 6 weeks after our launch of 超級無敵高B班. Being an independent developer, and wanting to give back some for all that I have learned from fellow developers, sharing some info with the community is the very least I must do =)

People have shown interests in wondering how big or small, the Hong Kong Market is. I’m not here to answer that for you, but merely to present you with some numbers that might aid in your business decisions. Bear in mind, this is only from 1 small game that topped the charts for around a week and a bit.

Here we are, data of the first 4 weeks:

(This is for free lite version of the game, if you are interested in paid version’s statistics, contact me!)

*Disclaimer, all these data are collected in anonymous fashion in a grouped statistical pool manner, I have no knowledge of exactly which person it is that was using the app.

Wow, after a whole week of battling with Core Data, I think I have the hang of it. That thing crashes like no tomorrow. You create an object, you delete it, it crashes. You create and object, you create some linked objects, you delete the parent object, it crashes. The best part is, even Apple’s sample code CoreDataRecipe crashes….so….I’m letting it be. It’s gotta be a CoreData bug about the delays in the database saving its state.

However, there are significant progress.  The database structure is set and defined.  The dynamic table view is working great. The interface is somewhat emerging.  I’m showing idioms like idioms should be!

Now I’m facing trouble of the beauty of let’s say….computers were built in English alphabets, and every other language are orphans that no one really takes proper care of….a k a.  Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese encodings in Unicode UTF8, Big5, GB, and oh my god bunch of mixed encodings and system tables.  I have absolutely zero knowledge in this.

Does anyone want to shed some lights? have any good webpage links that explain all this?

Now that Kindergarten is submitted to Apple, I now have my focus on the next app, Chinese Idioms. Main purpose of this development is to create a productivity reference tool that focuses on the iPhone native user interface designs.

Things I’ll be utilizing as part of developing this app.

- CoreData persistance store database (instead of SQLite)
- UI Navigation Bar at the top , UI Tab Bar at the bottom
- extensive UITableview with dynamic data fetch controller, probably with run time generated predicate
- Custom UITableviewCells
- multi-language switching (Traditional Chinese,Simplified Chines, English interfaces)

Things our Graphics designer will be focusing on:

- complete graphics overlay of the UITableView, rows, cells, and buttons
- sexy hawt icons for boring chinese idioms!! *.*

Things I am thinking I might add (if I ever have enough time):

- an “online” database where users can contribute their idioms and see them back on their devices
- WordPress API posting integration
- Blogspot API posting integration (Google’s got some really sweet API for accessing Google Data)
- In App advertisements

Anything else I have missed? any suggestions from anyone?
